A bill that would create a state public information board passed the House State Government Committee on Thursday, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette.

Senate File 430 is β€œan act relating to violations of the open-records and public-meetings law and the creation of the Iowa public information board.”

The seven-person board would receive complaints alleging public-information law violations and work to resolve the complaints through informal assistance or formal investigations. The board should also offer training opportunities to lawful custodian and governmental bodies, among other entities, the legislation states.

The act would take effect July 1, 2012.
