A Solon teenager was sentenced to 45 years in prison Monday in connection with a burglary that left a man with gunshot wounds in both hands.

Dakota Lee Williams, 19, pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary and second-degree robbery. A 6th District judge sentenced him to 35 years for the two charges, but dismissed attempted murder and going armed with intent charges.

Williams was arrested Feb. 25, 2010, after police said he entered the victim's residence on North Dodge Street holding a handgun, dressed in black, with a bandanna across his face.

He pointed the gun at the victim, forced his way into the apartment, and demanded money. He threatened to shoot the victim if he resisted. During a struggle, the gun discharged.

Williams also pleaded guilty to second-degree theft and forgery and received five years in prison for each.
