A bill approved by the Iowa Senate would ban the sale of baby products containing the chemical bisphenol A.

Lawmakers approved the bill 48-2 on Wednesday.

Research has shown products containing the chemical could be toxic and cause birth defects, reproductive harm, of developmental harm.

Senate File 405, originally proposed by Sen. Joe Bolkcom, D-Iowa City, will continue to the Iowa House for further consideration.
