Iowa lawmakers debated a bill that could limit public employees’ abilities to collectively bargain on Wednesday evening in the House.

If passed by both houses and signed by the governor, the legislation would restrict unions’ ability to negotiate things such as retirement, health insurance, and layoffs.

The bill — and others like it nationwide — have been the subject of recent controversy and protest.
