The Twin Cities’ Gypsy Lumberjacks will perform at 8 p.m. today at the Yacht Club, 13 S. Linn St. Admission is $6.

The band, with between four and six members, loosely focuses its music in Americana and Appalachian folk roots. The musicians collaborate on writing songs, described on the band’s website as “slow growth [with] a propensity for world sounds.”

Leif Magnuson’s and Bobby Patrick’s acoustic guitars form the basis of the Gypsy Lumberjacks’ sound, alternately providing propulsive rhythmic chords and frenetic lead picking, especially on instrumental numbers, and warmer, subdued strumming supporting Magnuson’s clear tenor.

Ben Karon’s performance on the cajón, a Peruvian percussion instrument, embellishes the band’s sound. The occasional presence of solo strings and accordion further augment suggestions of world music’s influence.

The unsigned band has music available on both MySpace and Facebook.
