The University of Iowa Executive Council of Graduate and Professional Students voted unanimously to provide more than $9,000 towards a new digital projection system for the Bijou.

Jesse Damazo, the Bijou’s executive director, spoke Tuesday to persuade members to vote for more funding, noting a significant increase in patrons this year because of the new free tickets for students initiative.

The Bijou will provide $40,000 of its own money for the new projector, which, Damazo said, will help the cinema keep up with new technological advances.

UI Student Government also passed a bill to provide funding for the new system last week.
