Iowa City City Council approved the facility plan for Expansion of South Wastewater Treatment Plant at its meeting Tuesday night.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources requires the plan, which is part of the regulatory process for the Wastewater Treatment Consolidation Project.

Copies of the plan were only given to the councilors, who approved the plan 7-0.

The plan’s approval brings the planning phase of the project to a close. Officials will now proceed with the design phase of the project.
