Writer Rae Armantrout will give a free reading at 8 p.m. today in the Dey House Frank Conroy Reading Room.

Armantrout is an accomplished poet whose work includes Next Life, which the New York Times named one of the most notable books of 2007, and Versed, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award in 2009 and a Pulitzer Prize in 2010. She has also written a short memoir titled True, in which she tells about her life in Berkeley, Calif., and San Diego.

She has received a bachelor’s degree from the University of California-Berkeley and a master’s degree in creative writing from San Francisco State University. Armantrout teaches at the University of California-San Diego, where she has taught writing for almost 20 years.

Armantrout’s poetry is celebrated for its clever examination of language and its insightful perspective of weighty themes [SAYS WHO?]. Money Shot, her next collection, is expected to be available this summer.
