The Iowa City Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at 1402 Esther St. Monday, a press release said.

When the first units arrived, according to the report, the building had moderate smoke coming from the exterior of the split-level, single-family structure.

Two engines, a ladder company, rescue company, and a battalion chief brought the kitchen fire under control in 35 minutes, the press release said.

Authorities completely extinguished the fire within 50 minutes of the call, and officials remained on the scene for two hours.

The press release said all occupants were evacuated, and there were no injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation; officials estimate the damage is at $45,000.
