The University of Iowa was awarded a $153,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Senator Chuck Grassley said Tuesday.

Each year, local Iowa organizations, colleges and universities, individuals, and state agencies apply for the competitive grants from the federal government, and the funding is awarded based on each local organization’s ability to meet criteria set by the federal agency providing the funds.

According to the release, the university will use the money to conduct research on heart and vascular diseases.
