Iowa City’s population has increased by approximately 9.7 percent in the last decade, census results released Thursday show.

According to the census, the city grew from more than 62,000 people to almost 68,000. Iowa as a whole increased by 4 percent, and Johnson County grew by almost 18 percent, or almost 20,000 people.

The county’s growth was the second largest among the 20 biggest counties in Iowa. Only Dallas County’s population increased more.
