Police arrested an Iowa City man Sunday after he allegedly punched a uniformed officer in the face, according to police.

Dane Boeckenstedt, 24, 1911 Taylor Drive, was charged Feb. 6 with assault on a peace officer, public intoxication, and interference with official acts.

According to the police report, Iowa City police officers were conducting an interview about a fight reported in front of Pints, 118 S. Clinton St., when Boeckenstedt punched an officer in the left side of the head.

The defendant then resisted arrest by tensing up his arms and not complying with demands, the report said.

Police said they could smell alcohol on Boeckenstedt and he had slurred speech at the time of the incident. Police later discovered the original fight involved the defendant’s brother, according to the report.

Interference with official acts is a simple misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of $625.

Assault on a peace officer is a serious misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum of one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,875.
