Two Daily Iowan photographers received awards at the Iowa Newspaper Foundation’s Better Newspaper Contests this weekend in Des Moines.

Photographer Rob Johnson won Best News Photo for his shot of a snowball fight on the Pentacrest last winter. Photographer Christy Aumer placed second in the same category for her photo of a bloody, vomit-covered individual, which accompanied the DI’s “Siren song of alcohol” story in December 2009. Aumer also placed third in the Best Video category for the story’s multimedia piece.

The DI also placed third in the “Best Ad Series or Campaign Featuring Any Service or Merchandise Category” for its Grand Giveaway contest.

The DI competes in the Dailies Class 2 division, which is made up of daily newspapers with circulations higher than 10,000.
