The state Board of Regents unanimously approved the diversification of one of the University of Iowa’s investment pools as an alternative to fixed endowments.

This allowed officials to partner with Wilshire Consulting firm for future business investments.

The pool was created in 1998 to provide UI officials with options for investments, including long-term endowments.

Previously, only shorter-duration investments were allowed in numerous areas. But UI Vice President for Finance Doug True said officials would like to work to transition almost $80 million in a smaller pool of funds to increase return potentials on investments.
