The state Board of Regents approved the recommendation for a formal vote on design plans for a new University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.

The nearly $271 million project will face a formal vote at today’s meeting. If the plan is approved, UI officials will be able to begin construction.

“We need this in order to create an environment that lends itself to the best quality of care for our patients,” said UI Vice President for Medical Affairs Jean Robillard.

The project is slated for completion in 2015. The hospital’s location will be north of the Pomerantz Pavilion and south of the Hospital parking ramp 2.
