The one-man punk band Hamell on Trial will play along with Birds to Pray today at 9 p.m. at the Mill, 120 E. Burlington St. Admission is $7.

Hamell plays loud, fast music that is marked by politics, passion, and high-energy performances. He recently released his ninth CD, Rant & Roll, from which he will play from during the show.

Hamell has the ability to write a song and perform it in the same night. He didn’t realize his true gift as a musician until he moved away from the band scene and became a solo artist.

For the past couple of years, Hamell on Trial has been moving in new directions and focusing on live performances. It provides a new aspect to his music and helps him develop a live set for each show.

Besides coming to Iowa City, Hamell will take his show to Fringe Festivals and clubs all over North America and Europe.
