The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is asking the state Board of Regents to approve the upgrade of lighting in the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences.

According to the regents, the UIHC wants $2,515,000 for installation of externally insulated ductwork, replacement of existing lighting systems in the building, and the installation of a new occupancy-sensory system throughout the building.

UIHC officials said the project would help reduce the library’s energy consumption.

The project would be funded by the Department of Energy Grant and the General Education Building Renewal and Equipment funds.
