Iowa City police arrested a local man after he reportedly tried to drive through a parking ramp gate Sunday.

Kevin Butler, 30, 1002 Friendly Ave., was charged with OWI.

According to police, Butler attempted to drive through the gate at the Clock Tower parking ramp after he hit a city vehicle.

Police said Butler’s car was stopped in front of the gate and in drive when they arrived, and he had bloodshot eyes and poor balance. Staff at the Tower ramp told officers Butler hit a city vehicle in the ramp prior to trying to drive through the gate.

Butler admitted to officers he had been drinking and had been at two bars earlier in the evening, according to the police report. He also failed a blood-alcohol test, police said.

Second-offense OWI is an aggravated misdemeanor, punishable by up to two years in prison and a maximum fine of $6,250.
