Women’s tennis downs Panthers 6-1 in Cedar Falls

The No. 30 Iowa women’s tennis team picked up its first victory of the spring season with a win over Northern Iowa on Jan. 22. The Hawkeyes dropped the Panthers, 6-1, at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Cedar Falls.

Iowa went 3-0 in doubles matches and 4-1 singles matches.

Iowa’s No. 1 doubles duo — junior Sonja Molnar and senior Jessica Young — took down the opposition, 8-5.

The 70th-ranked Molnar also defeated Laia Gonzalez in No. 1 singles action (6-7, 6-4, 10-6).

Young ran her season singles record to 3-0 after knocking off Laura Okicki, (6-1, 6-2). Christina Harazin, Jessica Cohen, and Alexis Dorr also won their respective singles matches.

Lynne Poggensee-Wei was the only Hawkeye to drop her singles match, falling to UNI’s Jessica Kunzelmann (6-2, 6-1).

The Hawkeyes will take their 1-0 record to Atlanta on Saturday to take on Georgia Tech.
