Curry, Liverpool, Praska, “A” relay team star for Iowa women

The Iowa women’s track and field team saw big finishes this past weekend in numerous events at the Jack Johnson Classic in Minneapolis.

In the shot put, redshirt freshman Rachel Curry took first place, throwing 13.86 meters, and true freshman Micaela Haight took second in the shot put behind Curry with a toss of 13.71 meters.

In the mile, Iowa took the second through sixth-place finishes. Junior Betsy Flood came in second with a time of 4:47:62, followed by junior McKenzie Melander, senior Amanda Hardesty, junior Brittany Dlhy, and senior Lauren Hardesty.

In the 400 meter, freshman Ashley Liverpool came in first place with a time of 56.30 seconds. Senior Tiffany Hendricks took third place, crossing the finish line only .20 seconds behind Liverpool, recording a time of 56.50 seconds.

Senior Bethany Praska took first place in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:29:60. Freshman Erin Jones took second place in the 60-meter dash — only .05 seconds behind the first place finisher. In the 200-meter dash, Jones took first place with a time of 24.72 seconds.

Iowa “Team A” of Hendricks, Praska, Liverpool, and junior Nicole Erickson came in first in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:45:03.
