The state Senate introduced a bill on Wednesday addressing the need for flood preparation and response.

Senate File 53 would push for floodplain management and create a grant program to encourage pre-emptive action to reduce flood damage. With the bill, the Legislature would be able to appropriate money for planning.

Following its introduction, the Senate referred the bill to its committee on Natural Resources and Environment.
