Iowa City police arrested an Iowa City man after he allegedly stole a taxi while intoxicated outside a Delimart.

Andrew Griffith Lisle, 23, 629 S. Johnson St. Apt. 2, was charged Wednesday with second-degree theft and second-offense OWI, a police report said.

According to the report, police were called to a Delimart on Benton Street when a person reported someone was stealing a cab.

On their way to the scene, police were informed the cab was at Gilbert Street and Benton Court, and the alleged suspect had left on foot, police said.

When police arrived on the scene, they received a description of the suspect’s clothing, and they found Lisle after following fresh footprints in the snow. According to the report, his clothing matched the description.

The cab driver reportedly identified Lisle as the person who stole his taxi, which was unharmed during the incident.

A security video from the Delimart and a copy of a receipt matching Lisle’s credit-card number were also taken as evidence.

Second-offense OWI is an aggravated misdemeanor, punishable by up to two years in prison and a maximum fine of $6,250.

Second-degree theft is a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of $7,500.
