Iowa linebacker James Morris was named a first-team Freshman All-American by College Football News Tuesday.

The Solon native — who emerged as a key player filling in at linebacker for injured teammates — recorded 60 tackles as a true freshman, including one sack. He also broke up four passes.

"He possesses the physical toughness and all of the intangibles that have been inherent to great Hawkeye defenders for decades," College Football News' Richard Cirminiello wrote.

Additionally, Iowa offensive lineman Nolan MacMillan earned honorable mention freshman All-America honors. The redshirt freshman started six games at right guard this season.
