The wrongful termination and defamation trial of Marcus Mills, a former University of Iowa general counsel, has been moved to the federal court.

Mills said the move was prompted by the defendants and their attorneys.

The reason behind the move is still unclear.

University of Iowa President Sally Mason terminated Mills on Sept. 23, 2008, after an investigation by the Stolar Partnership specifically named him and former Vice President of Student Services Phillip Jones as being responsible for allegedly mishandling a 2007 reported sexual assault.

Jones filed a lawsuit against the UI, Mason, and the regents for due-process violation and defamation in 2009. His trial is set for January.

Mills' lawsuit names the UI, the state Board of Regents, Mason, Regent Bonnie Campbell, Stolar, and former Stolar partner James Bryant.
