Iowa City woman allegedly breaks into neighbor’s house

An Iowa City woman was charged with allegedly breaking into a neighbor’s home to assault the resident.

Shaneka Alexander, 22, 2404 Bartelt Road Apt. 2A, was charged Oct. 17 with first-degree burglary.

According to Iowa City police, Alexander allegedly demanded entrance at a Bartelt Road apartment at 9:52 a.m. in order to beat up the reported victim. Police said the residents at the address didn’t open the door, and Alexander allegedly broke open the door.

Alexander reportedly assaulted the victim and caused bodily injury before the two were physically separated, police said. Alexander was known by the reported victim, identifying her by first and last name.

First-degree burglary is a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
