Nebraska joins Big Ten, according to reports
Nebraska has joined the Big Ten Conference, according to multiple reports Friday afternoon.
Two unnamed Big Ten officials said Commissioner Jim Delany contacted Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe Friday morning to tell him he had officially invited Nebraska to join the conference, according to The Omaha World-Herald. A source with direct knowledge of the situation said Nebraska accepted the invite, the newspaper reported.
Additionally, University of Texas regents are set to meet June 15 via telephone to decide whether the school will remain in the Big 12 or leave to another conference, the Associated Press said Friday.
Nebraska Chancellor Harvey Perlman said he hopes the school can be "integrated" into the Big Ten by 2011, USA Today reported.
With the move, Nebraska becomes the conference's 12th school.
