Discussions related to the possible registration of Everclear alcohol will be put on hold, said Lynn Walding, the administrator for the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division.

Walding said the commission is taking a step back and considering more education outlets related to the public’s consumption of the high proof alcohol.

Registering the individual 750-milliliter bottles legally sold in Iowa would have been a burden for state officials, he said.

The commission is working to complete warning labels for the bottles, Walding said. The expense will either be paid by Everclear suppliers or shared with the state.

The commission is also considering a campus educational campaign for next year, and it will only reconsider the registration if these efforts fail, he said.
