Iowa gymnast Rebecca Simbhudas was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week on Monday.

The junior GymHawk sparkled in a memorable home dual meet against Illinois on Jan. 30. The all-arounder swept all four events, winning the vault by hitting a 9.850 and tying for top honors in the balance beam, uneven bars, and floor exercise.

She took home the all-around title with a score of 39.400.

However, the Hawkeyes lost the meet to the Fighting Illini, 195.25-192.950.

This marks the second time in her career that the Markham, Ontario, Canada, native has won the weekly award. Her first came on Feb. 23, 2009, when she won her first career all-around title as a sophomore against Iowa State.

“I am very surprised,” Simbhudas said. “It is a great honor to be named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week. It’s nice to know that my hard work is paying off.”
