Q: “Why isn’t parking at the Main Library lot free when the library closes on weekend nights, as it is on weekday nights?”
A: Cashier hours at the UI Main Library lot are kept on a consistent schedule so it doesn’t confuse patrons or create longer hours for cashiers, said Jeff Rahn, the UI parking operations manager.
Cashier hours are between 7 a.m. and midnight daily, and patrons can exit the lot for free outside of those times.
Rahn said because lots are more likely to instate 24/7 cashier hours than cutting them, UI parking officials are looking into different technologies that would use an automated system as opposed to a hired cashier.
